HIKING

Hiking Tips
Hiking is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, get exercise, and provide fun for the whole family for little money (parking fees and snacks). But with it, as with any activity, there are precautions you should take to ensure safety and prevent injury. Here are some of my top hiking tips. If you have specific hiking questions, email me and I’ll respond to you and update my site.
Top 10 Safety Tips
1.Never hike alone.
2.Make sure someone at home knows where you are and when you should get back.
3.Bring a GPS, even if you are hiking a well-known trail.
4.Bring plenty of water--more than you “should” need.
5.Bring snacks even for short hikes, in case of emergency.
6.Always carry first aid supplies or a first aid kit.
7.Be vigilant of other hikers. (Bad things can happen on the trail-- remember Meredith Emerson?
8.Check the weather forecast before you hit the trail, especially if hiking in the mountains.
9.Tell someone (not on the hike) where you plan to hike and when you expect to be back. Then call them when you return from your hike.
10. Know seasonal conditions in your area. (Is it hunting season? What wildlife might you encounter? What plants should you avoid?)
